Everybody is different, and does this sport for different reasons at totally different levels and distances.

however in the end we all align and do it for the same fundermental reason. We love doing it.. if you dont love it, go do something else..

I set my alarm at 4:30 in the morning on a day to day basis and am never late to a session (most are solo) because deep down I love doing what I do. i get excited even before a solo ride

I love getting to work after riding 80-100k's on time and seeing the guys I employ rolling out of their cars half asleep.

Latley I have been rolling around with my new x-mas camera or Iphone and taking photos along the way.

Here is a collection of some random stuff I see over the holidays before most of vegas has woken up

to love this sport i think these thoughts to keep me entertained
when its raining I think. atleast its not hot
when its hot i think atleast its not raining
when im hammering into the wind i think atleast im increasing my hours
when i have a tail wind i pretend its not even there and im just riding away from the bunch

Nice post Matt - reminds me of one of my favourite blogs (www.cyclingtipsblog.com)and a semi-regular feature called 'What you missed this morning'.

Some beautiful pictures that ended up getting turned into a calendar. This was the finalists in a competition to pick the photos for the calendar.

Wow! Some great pics Matt. You certainly get around the place.

We get to see more sunrises in a year than most people will see in a lifetime. Magic!

I'm moving to Brisbane in 3 weeks so may hassle you for directions for some of the long rides if that's ok?

Good choice. Only thing to note is that many of the old woolstores are very very noisy inside due to the expanse and everything is wood. A mate of mine lived in one and there were signs everywhere reminding them of the noise. Down the New Farm end is great along the river. Heaps of options price range depending. Probably the best running scenery wise in Brisbane from there.

Thanks for the feedback Alex. Not sure if they would appreciate the windtrainer in the woolstores! I'll also be working at the international airport so this would put me on the "right" side of town. My coach also mentioned the swim squads at the Valley pool are ok too.

Matt, where do you live? I often ride around Mt Cotton and do long rides up to Recliffe. Let me know if you'd like to get together for a ride some time

I worked at the airport myself. The Newstead Bridge to the control tower is 11.5km. I used to go that way off the inner city bypass. I could do 16 minutes from Red Hill in light Traffic.

Valley Pool squads are the business. Red Dog (Trent Patten) is the guy there and is sensational.

12-14 lows, 24-26 highs, no wind no clouds. Pretty good if maybe a tad cool. I don't do cold well at all. Vastly better than the couple of months of 40+ we have in store.

just a holiday on the road and managed to do a bit of running every day.

after seeing the place I am definitely going back for a bit of riding around the South Island, it is an unbelievably beautiful place and so many cyclists around doing the same thing!
