It will be one if the first two.
Bernie should sell up. She has no interest in the forum anymore and this happens every 3-6mths

I suspect it is a hosting server change (same provider/different server) and it has broken the codebase / not transferred correctly. This will not be a quick fix as depends on when a backup was done, if so, IT involvement to roll back and to work out what caused the root issue, etc. Been a relatively free service, I would think the priority will not be high.

reasonably poor form. Yep free service ...BUT on Trannys front page it claims to be the `largest forum in Australia for the triathlon community`.

That's just shows you how much of a numpty nuffink sport we participate it Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing

How are people supposed to know they are wrong and stupid if I don't have Trannies to tell them so?

Why would Bernie change, when everyone apparently accepts the lack of service as standard?
Other forums that try to fill niche don't seem to go far........

Other forums don't go well as they haven't got the sense of community that Transitions has built up over many years. The other forums that try to build the 'new transitions' forum think they can take the best of it and leave what they perceive to be the worse of it behind. This in turn then only appeals to various parts of the forum, which then does not bring the feel of the community with it.

In other words, for the most part it isn't perceived as being 'broken' by the masses (until we all get locked out) so the masses aren't interested in a 'fix'.

It'll probably end up being the case that everyone gets a lot more training done that ususal during the period the site is down!

Simply a case of not paying the bill... again! I'd of thought Google ads etc would more than cover the running costs so I'm perplexed as to why this happens.

Bernie hasn't raced in 9 or 10 years, has no interest in the sport and contributes nothing to the moderation as most of it is done by Trev. If she isn't making money from it, why not let it go to someone who has an interest. I suspect her ego won't allow her!

I tried to buy it off her a long time ago and it didn't happen for various reasons, one of which was that I had it on record (posted on another forum) that I thought she was an idiot scratch .

To be honest, and knowing what I know today, I am glad it didn't work out. Being an active admin/owner of a site of that size is not an easy task, she's just lucky to have a guy like Trev doing all the work behind the scenes and not wanting/needing to take any credit for it.

It could be much better for everyone if there was an active owner there though. There is a big enough group of people there for deals to be negotiated, sponsors come on board etc. Probably not a lot of money for a site owner as such, but a lot of potential to benefit the community as a whole if someone with interest in the sport was managing it (a bit like what people say about Triathlon Australia perhaps?)

But I agree with Chris' comments above - it's all about egos now and probably makes her feel good to say that she "owns" the site.

Ozchat did not go away to be replaced by transitions for good until they turmed it off. Transitions wont be replaced until it is turned off for good. It is certainly am opportunity missed though. Look at tri talk uk and slowtwitch for sites that have successfully taken themselves tobbeyond just a forum. The potentoal sure is there for transitions but the frequent diwn time will be a real issue for any additional parties that would get involved. There is an aviation web site i visit that started off as an email list in the 90s and is now huge and is pretty much the number one aviation information resource in the world. The guy recently sold it to a huge US internet advertising company for a very tidy sum.

    from bernie:

Transitions Notice - The website should be back up and running within a few days. The forum exceeded space and Invision failed to notify me so I'm in the process of transferring to another host. The forum look and feel will remain unchanged. So phuck all the haters the site will return.
