Ran my first 3hr run without having to walk. It's been 2 years.

I'm stiff and sore now though.

Trying to get some mojo again...battling with a lack of sleep as our daughter seems to think every sunday should be a stay up until 2am night!

Fluro, you got me thinking...I am looking to do a HIM next summer, how long should my longest ride, run and swim be in a build up to HIM?

I know it is a bit of a how long is a piece of string question but are there any guidelines?

For HIM's you can build up to and past race distances.

If I was doing my first HIM. I would build up my long ride to 100-120km (3.5-4.5hrs) and my long straight swim up to 2-2.5km (35-45min) and the run 22-24km (1:50-2hrs). Those distances would help build up your endurance and stamina to last the distance, which would be your first priority if your aiming to do your first HIM. Once you can handle the distances then you could think about building in some higher intensity interval work that will specifically meet the demands of the event. For example, if it is a hilly HIM then do some hill repeats, if it is a flat course then do some long TT work just about goal race paces, etc.

run focus after heavy hitting of swimming since Noosa to quell my in-security of long swims. Now after HOTW and another 4k swim I am now confident of open water swimming (only took 3x years). But my run was pushed asided since Noosa. I am getting back to loving to run. Did a great temp/fartlek hit out last nite, on the bike this morning for hill repeats (x4) in big ass gear and 10k TT home. Gym tomorrow, and 10 k run. Brick swim and run friday morn. Long ride Saturday and 2.5 maybe 3hr run Sunday. Concidering attending the Kingscliff Tri on 7/3/2010. be safe everyone Razz
