    Hi Guys,

I'm heading over to race OS (Cozumel) in a few weeks and was wondering if I need a TA licence?

Thanks in advance for your help. Very Happy

Alex - great work on setting up this site!

I am pretty sure you won't need a TA license, however you will probably need a day license for the country in which you are racing.

Thanks Julie. I thought that may be the case but wasn't sure. When I did a mtb race OS I had to have a MTB Australia licence. I'm sure the Mexicans will sort me out when I get there.

Maybe flick them a quick email and confirm that. I would hate to give you the wrong advice. I did Kona and I bought a 1 day license when I went to registration. I don't see why it would be different. Good luck

MTB event would have been UCI sanctioned I would guess. You only need TA membership if you race ITU events. Anything IM/WTC just needs day membership for insurance INCLUDING IMWA and IMOZ as of this year.

Be aware that insurance may not be a requirement in the country where you are racing so you should consider some sort of travel insurance if that's the case.

    Thanks Rog.

I have travel insurance....it just doesn't cover me during the race. I'm also heading down to do some mtb'ing in Guatemala afterwards and will be cautious while out on the trails there.

When will Mel & I see you back on the bike?

It's quite common for travel insurance not to cover you during a race, and even during some specific "extreme" sports. Check the specifics of coverage of TA insurance. I once showed my TA m'ship card for a race in Switzerland, and it was accepted OK.

Also, consider getting separate insurance for your bike.

Cozemel and the Yacutan peninsula is a beautiful location. And even moreso down in Guatemala - where are you planning to do your MTB'ing? If you can fit it in, take a trip to a place called Lanquin in the Guatemalan mountains - it's hard to find, takes a good day on chicken busses to get there, but has a spectacular cave system, underground waterfall and a raging river. Great memories...
