Swimming Query - Time Trials Empty Swimming Query - Time Trials

Post by Peter Fri May 28, 2010 4:44 am

In an attempt to do a sub 1:03 time (at Busso). I have actually been training and doing squad 3 times a week.

The last month has gone well and I am getting to the end of a session still feeling good. (90mins)

So my theory is now I am swim fit.

    Now my query.

Do people do regular Time Trial efforts in the pool to see how they are going?

If so how often and how far?

I notice that AP has his guys doing bike TT's over 100k a bit. Just wondering what the pool TT distance etc... would be?

Our coach would have us do various different distances at times and keep a record. Every now and then it'd be a 400, or an 800 or even 1200. Sometimes we'd do a 200, followed by say 300 easy (maybe breaststroke/backstroke) then another 200 and then around again. Trying to see if we can sustain the same times. You keep a record or a check on how fast you're running, and even riding. Why not for swimming.

In the offseason I'll focus on

    25m sprint time
    100m sprint time
    200m sprint time

Then during a swim focus block I'll focus on
    400m TT
    1km TT

During an IM specific block I'll focus on
    2km TT or
4 x 1km TT (neg split and if you can then the first 1km TT is generally your best IM predictor pace)
