New Goals - running Empty New Goals - running

Post by Dave Tyno Wed Jun 09, 2010 3:04 am

Following the debacle that was the Noosa entry process, I'm not entered.
Now, I'm searching for new goals.
My GF and I were talking about doing the Half at Melbourne Marathon and I've been thinking about Kurrawa to Duranbah 50km run as well.
Now, I'm thinking about doing Melbourne Marathon 10/10/10 then possibly K2D on 5/12/10.

I'm probably going to go with the Hal Higdon Novice program for the Marathon, take a week or 2 off then, I think, do the last few weeks of the program again up to K2D.
    Runners, what do you reckon?

A 50 km running race is quite long and will probably take you a long time to recover especially if it is your first. What are you doing after this race?

It's a big effort for me to plan up to December, Julie Smile
Hadn't got past that point yet.
Having a break over Xmas won't be a problem clown
More worried at this stage about not being able to recover between the Marathon and the 50k.
That said, I can probably enter K2D a couple of weeks before the event, so won't do my money if I can't back up.

Why not just do the 50k.

a lot less pressure, close to home, less out lay ect

No reason why you can't do both. But I'm guessing you knew I was going to say that :p

THat 50k is a tough one. A mate of mine did it a year or two ago. It is on Boxing day or something isnb't it? It is like 10 million degrees. They run it out and back and have a 25km option as well I think. Maybe do that.

It's the first weekend in December.
I did the 25 last year.
If I take a while to recover, I'll do the 25 again.
If I'm feeling OK, I'll go the 50.

If not doing Noosa, what else tri related are you doing? Are you going to GCHIM again? If not, what about the sprintman. If I can't get into the HIM I'll give the sprintman a go. Start of August too is the Gatton Grunt, which I think is the QLD duathlon championship this year. It's a 10k/40k/5k which I hope to do. Only an hour away for you. And respectable start times, I think transition opens at like 6:30am and the main race doesn't kick off till 10am. No swim which sucks, but I reckon it could be fun.

gchim is a week out from the race. 6 hours that weekend probably isn't a good idea Shocked
I'm maintaining my no-usmevents stance at the moment.
I might do some swimming on my cross training days, but I'm not motivated to be in the pool at the moment.
    Duathlon is possible.

Well, possible, it may have been, but I'm not doing it.

Training for Melbourne is going OK.

Just have to start doing some swimming and riding.
If you haven't read my blog (Why haven't you read my blog? Crying or Very sad )I have another goal now too.
    I've entered Challenge Roth 2011.
I estimated 14 hours on the entry form.

I'll stick to my own devices for a while and probably get a full plan next year.
