I highlighted three names. The first of course is the winner. The second is IM World Champ Faris Al Sultan and the third is a local Age Group Triathlete who within a month of this race did a 4:50 Half Ironman.

It shows the whole spectrum of how running is vastly different to triathlon. Now to use Chris as an example (and I intend ABSOLUTELY NO OFFENCE) he would not finish within an hour of Faris over an Ironman yet is just a few minutes back Faris is even further behind the winner. Faris of course is a triathlete first and a runner second.

It just shows that you train for a triathlon NOT to be a runner if you want to be a successful (World Class) triathlete.

I think the reaction to Crowie's CDA run leg sums it up well.
2:46 is 30% slower than a likely winning Mara time these days, but I've seen it stated as evidence that there are still fast IM runners around.
The fastest woman on the day went 3:03 - again about 30% slower than the equivalent female marathon winner.

Ok lets start assuming..

to win a HIM at clearwater... ralert won with a run off the bike of of 1:09

Chris ran a stand alone of 1:20 which is damm quick and faster than me so I would say off the bike he could run 1:30 easy....
20mins in a HIM difference

double it up to an ironman and Ralert can run a
2:45? and Chris could run a 3:30?
and by my crude maths 45mins at an ironman distance... if chris can do that run.. on a 5hr bike and a 1hr swim.. he is only aprox 1hr behind Faris. who is not as fast as he used to be

there is not great drop off in expected run times

so why are we comparing an aged ex champ to the elite HalfMarathoners in the world to a good solid age grouper.. what do you think Ralert HIM'er could run stand alone? 1:05, down from his 1:09 at clearwater?
