    Hi

This is my first post on here as I found you via a post on Slowtwitch.

My wife has said that I can upgrade my current bike (Giant Defy 2009 model) and I'm finding it hard to decide.

I can spend up to $5K and I feel it will be used for general cycling and triathlons. My debut triathlon will hopefully be the Long Course in Huskisson next year.

Do I get a road bike that I can add a pair of bars too? If so, any suggestions. One of the 'aero' frames, maybe.

Or do I split the budget between a road and a tri/TT bike?

    Thanks heaps

I am a big fan of a cheapie bike as your training bike. I do have a flash Nano Carbon road ike but that was when I was purely racing bikes.

You can get some pretty good value with P2Cs still from various places in the US especially with the exchange rate. The Felt B12 is also pretty great value.

I Bought myself one of These and my TT bike is one of These. Look 576

That pair is exactly what I have and will come in well under $5000 eaving money for some race wheels. I did not look too hard for the Look pricing and there will be heaps of them on clearance at the usual places like Trisports, Nitro, all3sports etc.

If you are not a snob and consider Cell bikes, you can get two for $4000 and purchased locally....

CEll Carbon frame with new 5700 105

Cell TT Bike Seems to be the same as the Planet X Exocet

If just spending $5K on a TT bike, get a P2C and a set of Sram whels 60 front, 80 rear for races with COnti GP4000 tyres. If just spending $5K on a road bike, there are options galore out there. The new BMCs look great.

Or, you could buy eith of the two road bikes above and one of these

    Fuji D6 3.0

Could get away without race wheels with that one.

Somewhere around mid $4K for the two. Leaves dollars for pedals and bottle cages etc.

Agree with Alex, Cell are worth a look.
I have a carbon Victor, Ultegra, as my training roadie. I bought it after reading a review in Bicycling Australia. If you don't mind setting it up yourself they are not a bad ride. It cost me not much over $2000. I don't think the price has gone up that much. Leaves you plenty for a TT bike.
I then bought a P2C frame and built my TT bike.
$5000 will give you plenty of options.
