"Biondi" swim drill? Empty "Biondi" swim drill?

Post by Mick B Thu Nov 05, 2009 10:40 am

    Anyone done it before???

A bit of a nothing post, but my old swim coach has returned after a two year absence and has pulled this one out of God knows where.

Basically, it is butterfly with an underwater recovery. Never felt so uncoordinated in all my life and I would have looked awful. It was followed by "Biondi plus one", which is one "Biondi" stroke then one normal fly cycle, repeat.

Good having a coach who spices things up a little. The same old thoughtless programs become boring pretty quickly.

What other weird and wonderful things have appeared at your swim squads to make life a little interesting?

Hah. I saw a couple of Portugese chicks doing this at the local Uni pool.

It looks like it should be easy, but getting everything in sync is impossible for me.

Catchup freestyle with your arms by your side instead of in front would have me swimming in zig-zags. Could never get that one.

    The biondi sounds hard Shocked

ok, try this for size - no fins.

finger trail and catch up combined, basically do finger trail but leave the hand out there ala catchup until the other arm touches your hand. Someone told me its an old popov drill, don't know if true or not.

find it encourages high elbows under the water as you simply don't have time to dig deep or you sink. builds a real feel for the water too.

Not the first time he's pulled that one out.

We've done freestyle with underwater recovery.

But the one I hate is one-arm freestyle, with the arm not being used by your side and breathing to that side.

I don't mind that one with fins. A bit ordinary without though.

for a bit of fun (hardly) we do a set where where we tumble turn 50 cm from the wall, ie cant push off, then straight into 10 strokes polo sprint from a stationary start. chin out of water. repeated 10x makes you want to cry. gee i hate swimming

Matt M if I remember correctly, my first ever squad session, lobbed with no toys. Rest of the squad sets off with fins for 200m of Popov, which was fingertrail/catchup/6-kick change and me with no fins and to-this-day the worst kick in aquatic history. It's lucky I persevered to rise to the heights of tri-swim mediocrity.

Ha! we get that one too. Also do the kick drill with both arms by your side. No fins here as I beleive its pretty pointless.

I think David gives out reverse order IM's. Finishing off with butterfly would hurt.
