Challenge #5. Swim like a fish. Empty Challenge #5. Swim like a fish.

Post by Alex R Sat Jan 23, 2010 7:49 am

As challenge 4 is over and we have now done bike and run, it is swim time. This one is over one calender month. Start date is Monday Feb 1 and all points gathered during February count.

Here is how the points work.

    1 Point - Swim 20-39 minutes
    2 Points - Swim 40-59 minutes
    3 Points - Swim 60-89 minutes
4 Points - Swim 90 minutes or greater

    Bonus points

1 Point - Open water swim
1 Point - Swims done on a third consecutive day. ie swim Mon, Tue, Wed, the Wed swim attracts a bonus point. The count resets after day 3 so a swim on the Thur would be day 1 again.
3 Points - Swims done on a 7th consecutive day. ie swim Mon - Sun every day and the Sun gets 2 points. You DO NOT also attract the 3 day swim bonus points.

Time is counted from when you hit the water until you get out. You don't have to stop the clock for rest intervals. If you find yourself close to another point level, standing around in the pool waching the clock is technically within the rules but not really within the spirit. You will be found out when you get 70 poins then swim 1:25 at your next IM Laughing

    The Goals

    35 Points - Challenge met.
40 Points - First to 40 wins a custom title of their choosing.

Does swimming in the rain also attract a bonus point?

Good challenge. Shame it didn't start a month earlier as I won't be doing much swimming after HOTW

Sounds good Alex - it will be a great challenge for me as my swim sessions rarely go over 40 minutes and I am lucky to get in 3 sessions a week.

With 6 swim sessions this week, including 2 over the hour mark, am wishing my program was started a week later at the moment

Had a thought it might be interesting for some recording of individuals best time over whatever distance now before the challenge starts, then see if there is any improvement at the end of the month.

Maybe choose the distance you want (anything from 50m to 1km TT for example) and see what improvement comes from consistently training over the month. Would be more beneficial for the BOPers.
